Amusan wins Team Nigeria’s first gold medal in Asaba
Oluwatobiloba Amusan has won in the women’s 100m Hurdles final of the 20180 African Senior Athletics Championships ongoing in Asaba.
She became the first athlete to win a medal, winning in a time of 12.86s, ahead of South Africa’s Rikenette Steenkamp who ran in 13.18s and Ivory Coast’s athlete who finished in 13.63s.
Amusan, who is competing at her first senior African Championships, has now won a total of four golds for Nigeria in all competitions.
Amusan had won gold at the 2018 Commonwealth Games after crossing the line at 12.68 seconds in the women’s 100 hurdles – a historic feat for Nigeria.
The 21-year old has also had a previous success at the 2015 African Junior Championships and African Games in Brazzaville.
The Asaba showpiece is the 21st edition of the CAA’s biennial competition and is scheduled to end on Sunday, August 5th.
